The best graduating student of Delta State University (DELSU), Ossaiugbo Ifeanyi Marcus was
on Saturday offered automatic employment as a lecturer in the
institution and an overseas scholarship to pursue his postgraduate
programme.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Victor Peretomode, who announced this at the school’s 10th convocation in
Abraka, said Ossaiugbo graduated with the cumulative aggregate of 4.68
from the department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Prof. Peretomode assured the institution would bear the full cost of his overseas post graduate studies.
He
said the university would, in compliance with the university’s vision
and mission statement, continue to provide qualitative education in
terms of research and innovations, teaching and learning to its students
and the society in general.
Marcus,
in his valedictory speech, said that the day was the most valuable in
his life, that of his family, and of the Department of Mathematics and
Computer Science.
“My journey through this
prestigious university began in September 2011. It was with profound joy
that I saw my name on the admission list of the department of
Mathematics and Computer Science; because my dream of becoming a
renowned Mathematician like Prof. Chike Obi, Prof. Emeritus James Okoye
Chukuka Ezeilo, Leonhard Euler, Bernhar Riemann and Augustin Lious
Cauchy,” he added.
He called on fellow students to ponder on the old words of Fred Allen,
who described a celebrity as someone who works hard all his life to
become well known, but wears dark glasses to avoid being recognised.
