Even as the baby mama trend continue to cause controversy in Nigeria with its recent influx, Adunni Ade, has come for people criticizing baby mamas.
The Nollywood actress
who is a single mother of two was quick to defend her status via a post
she shared on instagram on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
Ade
reminded the critics that most women had found themselves in that
position unintentionally, and had had to make the painful choice of
staying in an abusive relationship or leaving to fend for their kids
themselves.
On a stunning photo of herself, Ade wrote:
"I
take it personal when a person feels like they've got the right to
speak on a person's lifestyle, relationship status or what not. Just
because some choose to be quiet about your dirty laundry does NOT give
you the right to speak about another. Just like every other single
mother or so called "Baby Mama" , it's either a choice of being in a
miserable relationship or getting out and keep pushing for their
Child(Ren).
"P.S so you know, a lot of
single parent (male or female) do a great job providing for themselves
and children than you who sits in a miserable, horrible, heartbreaking
relationship. We are not to be defined by our relationship status! Your
dedication, hardwork, persistence to your existence in this world should
be your focus. Just because a lot of us don't share our life story to
the public does not mean we are not survivors. Face your life! Face your
work! Be a great example to others! Be remembered more for the good and
not bad. "
On the same day, Toyin Aimakhu had also shared her take on the new trend which has quickly become prevalent in the country.
She shared a meme with the text, “Don’t
let sex turn you into a mother until love makes you a wife! Be with
someone who’s gonna change your life not just your relationship status”
and captioned it #word #goodnight #toyintitans."
Had Aimakhu shared her post in response to Ade's?
Being a baby mama would always be a choice made, but should be made even before the damage is done, do you agree?
